Each student will participate in a volunteer work experience while at KU. Students have two options for their volunteer work experience.

  1. An independent internship-like work experience where the students work with the same organization or business during their entire work experience. This allows students to develop deeper personal connections with other employees and to gain a deeper understanding of that organization’s role in the community.

OR

  1. A guided community service work experience where students have multiple one-time work experiences at a variety of local service organizations. This allows students to interact with a wider variety of people and gain a better understanding of how U.S. communities help low-income people.

Both options will help students improve their English language communication skills as well as allow them to have a meaningful cross-cultural experience in the U.S. world of work. Both experiences will require students to complete 32 hours of work.

  • During summer semester, students will be enrolled in an academic course taught by AEC faculty.
  • This course is designed to help students better understand and get the most out of their work experience
  • Students do not get paid during the work experience
  • Students will earn a “Certificate of Successful Completion” signed by International Short Programs
