Services Details
ISP (then as part of the Applied English Center) tested the incoming BSMP participants and placed them in existing AEC courses based on their results. For more information about AEC testing and levels, visit the Applied English Center website.
Following a semester studying English, participants were expected to enroll in classes related to their major. Many participants would move to other universities involved in the program, depending on the major and existing English-language support. Majors in BSMP ranged from mechanical engineering to biology.
During their academic year, participants would also intern at various businesses and universities during the summer.
ISP arranged for participants to live in on-campus dormitories, around degree-seeking KU and AEC students. The participants also had access to a KU dining plan and often ate at Mrs. E's, an "all-you-care-to-eat" cafeteria on campus that serves most KU dormitories.
ACI participants had access to the following:
- 24/7 emergency support
- AEC staff & services
- KU Libraries
- KU Recreation Center
- Student Health Services
This program was funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology, and was administered by the Institute for International Education
ISP provided transportation to all required program events. Participants had access to local shuttles, and ISP provided support and assistance with understanding the transportation systems that participants encountered.
